March 26, 2026 marks our 5-year anniversary – we’ve come a long way….

Long before Blackcreek Nursery welcomed its first visitors, the work had already begun.

A small portion of what is now Blackcreek Nursery originally served as our production nursery, supporting our former business, Gene’s Nursery in Savannah, Georgia. In 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic — when much of the world felt uncertain — we made a decision: we would convert that production space into a retail nursery to serve our own community here.

From August 2020 until March 2021, we worked steadily to make that transformation. In just seven months, we reshaped the space, built infrastructure, and prepared to open our doors.

On March 26, 2021, we officially opened Blackcreek Nursery & Garden.

It wasn’t just the start of a business. It was the result of vision, hard work, and a grower’s optimism about the future beyond COVID.

Opening in a Storm

Opening day itself felt like a test.

A powerful storm system was sweeping across Georgia, with tornadoes touching down throughout the Southeast. We were expecting a shipment that morning — the very plants we would be selling on our first day. At 6 a.m., our supplier arrived after navigating storm warnings and dodging tornadoes across the state to reach us.

Talk about cutting it close.

So yes, we opened in the middle of a pandemic… and in the middle of a storm.

The Years That Followed

The early years were beautiful. We strengthened the bones of the nursery, expanded plant lines, and shaped the space into something meaningful for our community.

Then 2024 brought family illnesses that could have brought us to our knees. But we didn’t let them. We leaned into resilience and kept going.

In 2025, another blow came — a historic winter snow that devastated our 9,000-square-foot shade house, our propagation houses, parts of our irrigation system, and many of the plants we had worked so hard to grow. Years of labor were altered in a single storm.

Once again, we regrouped.

Instead of rebuilding exactly what was lost, we chose to pivot.

Two new greenhouses replaced the demolished shade structures. One large greenhouse became something entirely new — a classroom space where we now host our Nature to Nurture workshop series.

That same season, Blackcreek Herbals was born — our apothecary-style shop featuring specialty herbs, teas, and botanical goods. What began as a broad nursery has evolved into something more intentional: a place centered on plants that support body, mind, and spirit.

Growing Differently

The economy has shifted. We understand that plants can feel like a luxury when budgets are tight. That reality has forced us to think differently and refine our focus, leaning further into what truly matters – nature.

We are guided intentionally by nature. We grow and offer plants that give back. Plants that nourish. Plants that teach resilience. Plants that remind us that even after the harshest winter, the sun rises again.

Looking back, it feels fitting that we opened in the middle of a storm — because that’s exactly what these past five years have been. Challenge. Rebuilding. Growth. Gratitude.

And through it all, the friendships formed and the community built have made it worthwhile.

A Thank You — and a Request

We ask for your continued support — not only of our family business, but of small businesses everywhere.

Small businesses are the backbone of a community. They are places where you know the names and the faces behind the counter. Places where you trust the people who stand behind what they provide. Places where someone goes the extra mile because it’s not just business – it’s personal.

At least that’s the way it is for our family business.

Nature always wins.  You just have to grow with it!
