Discover the golden herb of autumn!

You see it on roadsides and back-road fields in October with its bright yellow plumes!  Goldenrod, Solidago L.,  is one of autumn’s most recognizable wild herbs—but there’s far more to this golden plant than meets the eye.

Join us at Blackcreek Nursery for our once-a-year  hands-on exploration of goldenrod and the traditional ways it has been gathered, prepared, and preserved as an herbal remedy for years.

We’ll work with goldenrod from flower to finished preparation, starting with why this remarkable native plant is wrongly accused of seasonal allergies!   We’ll also show you tips on harvesting and drying,  then explore several ways to use this beautiful autumn herb in your own home apothecary.

You’ll taste a goldenrod tea, see traditional preparation methods demonstrated, and then get hands-on making your own goldenrod herbal-infused oil to take home, plus a few extra surprises! 

During the workshop, we’ll explore:

Herbal Tea & Infusion
Learn how to make tea from Goldenrod.

Goldenrod Tinctures
Learn about goldenrod tinctures and how alcohol is used to extract plant constituents.

Goldenrod Oxymel
Explore this traditional preparation made with vinegar and honey

Herbal Infused Oil
Learn how to infuse dried goldenrod into sunflower oil, then make your own herbal oil to take home

Balms & Salves
See how an herbal-infused oil can be transformed into a simple balm or salve.

You’ll Take Home

• Goldenrod-Infused Herbal Oil
• Beeswax to turn your infused oil into a balm or salve at home
• Simple instructions for continuing your preparations at home

This is a once-a-year workshop, offering a special opportunity to work with goldenrod during its autumn season.

Whether you’re new to herbal preparations or already enjoy making your own home apothecary creations, this workshop is a chance to slow down, work with the plant, and learn practical ways to preserve and use goldenrod.

***OUTDOOR EVENT & WEATHER CONCERNS***

This is an outdoor event held in our greenhouse. We can safely hold class during a short light rain, but heavy rain, wind, lightning, or thunder may prevent us from holding the class safely.  If weather conditions make it unsafe to hold the event, we will cancel or postpone the class and notify you.  All registered guests will receive a full refund.

Cancellation Policy

We understand that plans change! If you can’t make it, please let us know so we can offer the spot to someone else on our list.

Cancel by Thursday, October 8 at 5:00 PM for a full refund. No-shows are not eligible for a refund.
